BIODRAMA
An Evening with President Grant: His Reflections on Native American Policies
as portrayed by Dr. Curt Fields
Thur | Feb 19, 2026 | 6pm
In celebration of the United States 250th anniversary of independence and in conjunction with the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable, Dr. Curt Fields will reflect on President Grant’s policies regarding the Native Americans late in his presidency which ran from 1869 to 1877. Dr. Fields researches and reads extensively about President Grant to deliver an accurate persona. His presentations are in first person, quoting from Grant’s memoirs, articles and letters he wrote, statements he made in interviews or wrote himself, and first-person accounts from those who were with him during selected events. Dr. Fields is the same height and body style as President Grant and, therefore, presents a convincing, true-to-life image of the man as he really looked.
Dr. Curt Fields is an author and living historian, a retired secondary school administrator, and an adjunct university professor at the University of Memphis and Belhaven University. He is a former Memphis police officer and hostage negotiator. Dr. Fields holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Memphis as well as a master’s degree and Ph.D. in education from Michigan State University. He has performed as either General Grant or President Grant at several National Parks and Historical Sites including Appomattox Court House National Historic Park, Grant National Monument, U.S. Grant Boyhood Home, and West Point. He has also appeared in films shown at historic sites and was featured on the Discovery Channel’s “How Booze Built America”.
DISCLAIMER: This presentation reflects the policies of President Grant during the 1870s regarding Native Americans, not current policies.
