About Still in the Saddle
Still in the Saddle: A New History of the Hollywood Western explores the evolution of Western film from 1969–1980 through iconic films, filmmakers, stars, and artifacts. The exhibition features screen-worn costumes worn by John Wayne and the world’s largest collection of Western film posters.
Meet Your Host
Andrew Patrick Nelson, PhD
Chief Curator Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson is one of the nation’s leading authorities on Western cinema and the author of Still in the Saddle: The Hollywood Western, 1969–1980. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and on NPR, and he regularly appears as a commentator on the History Channel and other networks. Following each Reel West Sundays screening, Dr. Nelson or guest film experts lead a discussion on the history and cultural impact of the featured film.
