True Grit (1969)
Sunday | Feb 15 | 2:00 pm
Directed by Henry Hathaway and starring John Wayne, Kim Darby, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, and Dennis Hopper, is a Western film adapted from the Charles Portis’ novel of the same name. Set in 1880, the movie follows determined teenager Mattie Ross as she hires the rough, one-eyed U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne) to hunt down Tom Chaney, the outlaw who murdered her father in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They’re joined by a Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), who also seeks Chaney for killing a senator, leading the unlikely trio into dangerous Indian Territory for a pursuit filled with conflict, classic Western action, and a surprising bond. Some historians believe Cogburn was based on Deputy U.S. Marshal Henry “Heck” Thomas, who brought in some of the toughest outlaws.

Sunday | Mar 6 | 2:00 pm
Directed by Burt Kennedy and starring James Garner, Joan Hackett, Walter Brennan, Harry Morgan and Bruce Dern, is a parody of a common Western trope: the selfless, rugged stranger who tames a lawless frontier town. Jason McCullough (James Garner) is a gambler who becomes the sheriff of a crime-ridden mining town and uses his wits to enforce the law instead of his gun.
