Billy the Kid (1941)

Stagecoach Movie Poster

Robert Taylor brings matinee idol glamor to the role of Billy the Kid in MGM’s lavish Technicolor rendition of the young outlaw’s life. Billy is depicted as a doomed romantic and misunderstood hero fighting against corrupt cattle barons. The influence on subsequent Billy the Kid movies can’t be overstated. Also starring Brian Donlevy, Ian Hunter, Mary Howard, and Lon Chaney Jr. Directed by David Miller.

This screening is part of our series Dead or Alive: Billy the Kid at the Movies, held in conjunction with the exhibition The Resurrection of Billy the Kid.

Western Spirit, Chief Curator, Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion with the audience.
