Robert Rodriguez: Cinema Sin Fronteras – Machete

Stagecoach Movie Poster

Born from a fake trailer and fueled by real rage, Machete turns exploitation cinema on its head. Danny Trejo stars as a former Mexican federal agent with a lethal skillset and a personal vendetta, slicing his way through a corrupt network of politicians, mercenaries, and vigilantes. Rodriguez and co-director Ethan Maniquis blend over-the-top action with sharp political satire, channeling the raw energy of 1970s grindhouse films while confronting issues like immigration, racism, and border militarization. Wildly stylized, unapologetically violent, and darkly funny, Machete gave Hollywood one of its first Latino action icons—and reminded audiences that genre filmmaking can still carry a razor’s edge. Starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, and Cheech Marin.

Chief Curator Andrew Patrick Nelson will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion with the audience.

This screening is part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration of the groundbreaking films of Robert Rodriguez.
