Mark Winter: History of Navajo Weaving
Celebrating the artistry of Navajo weaving, speaker Mark Winter led an exciting program about the history of Navajo weaving and the Toadlena Trading Post.
April 6, 2023 – Mark delved into the rich heritage of Navajo weaving, exploring its intricate techniques and cultural significance. It was a captivating journey through time, illuminating the traditions and stories woven into each tapestry.
Instrumental in preserving the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills weaving style, Mark has been involved in collecting, researching and dealing in both historic and contemporary Navajo, as well as other southwestern textiles, since 1970. He operates the Historic Toadlena Trading Post and Weaving Museum on the Navajo Indian reservation with his wife Linda, and is very involved in supporting contemporary Navajo weavers. Select items from his extensive private collection are often included in various museum exhibitions, currently including the New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe.
