Robert Rodriguez: Cinema Sin Fronteras – Once Upon a Time in Mexico

2003 Action film, part three of the Mexico Trilogy.
With Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Robert Rodriguez concludes his Mexico Trilogy on an operatic scale. Antonio Banderas returns as El Mariachi, now a legendary figure drawn back into action by a corrupt CIA agent (Johnny Depp) entangled in a violent coup. Bigger, bolder, and more chaotic than its predecessors, the film blends pulp fiction energy with political intrigue, baroque visuals, and bullet-riddled spectacle. Rodriguez assembles a star-studded cast—including Salma Hayek, Mickey Rourke, Eva Mendes, and Danny Trejo—while continuing to foreground Mexican characters and landscapes in a genre long dominated by Hollywood archetypes.
Chief Curator Andrew Patrick Nelson will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion with the audience.
This screening is part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration of the groundbreaking films of Robert Rodriguez.
