The Kid (2019)

Director Vincent D’Onofrio offers a fresh retelling of the Billy the Kid legend through the eyes of a young boy (Jake Schur) who crosses paths with both Billy (Dane DeHaan) and Pat Garrett (Ethan Hawke). Torn between hero worship and fear, the boy becomes a witness to the violent showdown that will seal Billy’s fate. Balancing intimate character drama with bursts of brutal frontier action, The Kid revisits the familiar story from a child’s perspective, emphasizing the blurred lines between legend and reality, innocence and corruption.
This screening is part of our series Dead or Alive: Billy the Kid at the Movies, held in conjunction with the exhibition The Resurrection of Billy the Kid.
Western Spirit, Chief Curator, Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion with the audience.
