Every weaving begins with choices about wool, yarn, dye, texture, time, labor, color, pattern, and design. Guided by generations of knowledge and individual creativity, those choices are woven into every finished work.

Woven: Navajo Textiles from the Pelberg Collection brings together seven modern and contemporary weavings by Diné artists that reveal the remarkable variety of Navajo weaving. Explore regional styles, discover the choices behind each design, and touch wool, dyed yarn, and a woven sampler as you follow the transformation of fiber into art.

The exhibition explores weaving as a living artistic tradition, demonstrating how generations of knowledge continue to inspire creativity and innovation today. Visitors will discover how regional traditions are connected to particular communities and histories, while artists work within, combine, and move beyond them to create works that are both deeply rooted and distinctly their own.

Through interpretive displays, immersive imagery, and hands-on experiences, Woven invites visitors of all ages to look beyond the finished textile and gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind every weaving.
